Michigan – Ohio.

After a 10 hour drive that seen us driving through Toronto, Sarnia, Detroit and Ann Arbor

We finally arrived at our destination, The Ark.

The Ark in Ann Arbor, MI – is a not for profit venue that is set to a theater style venue located in beautiful downtown Ann Arbor, where there are more outdoor patio’s than any other city that I have been in. Everyone that works at the Ark is a volunteer; they are so friendly and extremely hard working.

As we started our concert to a sold out house we kicked it into high gear with all the songs from our new album then moved into old favorites interweaving stores and jokes of our trips of past and present.

Thankfully we were fortunate to have a contingent of people on holidays from Scotland, so I had someone to tease for the night. Thank you…..

After the concert we traveled to Oberlin Ohio (3 ½ hours) to have a quick rest then a full day of performing at the Ohio Scottish Games. I’m always amazed at the amount of people, at a new venue, that travel far distances to see us that have seen us before, people that have all our albums and that have fond memories of concerts from years ago. Telling us stories of how songs on our albums have helped them get through some tough times in their lives; that makes performing so much more important to me and stories like these makes us want to exceed expectations with each concert and album.

After the concert we headed back to the hotel for rest before our 10 hour drive home the next morning, however, we headed to the bar to meet up with friends and fans and had a grand old time telling stories and telling jokes, the Brigadoons joined us for a few and then we all drifted off to our rooms.

The strangest part of the night was the fire alarm that went off at 3:00 am where we were ushered out of the hotel for one hour, however, Ziggy, Ewan and D’Arcy slept through it. Strange….

Until next weekend in Kincardine, have a great week.

HOMER:

Really, honestly what more can be said about this small village and cool venue?

A few words do come to mind.

Here is my Homer word list for this year.

Hospitality

Friends

Amazing venue

Talented staff

Wonderful volunteers

Quaint inviting village

Scary Fire department siren ( sounds like a world war II air raid)

Two concerts, Two days, sold out shows, roof raising fun is what has been had this past weekend.

I find myself looking forward to this concert weekend every year. I can’t put my finger on the one thing that makes me go back to The Center for the Arts in Homer, and I think that is a good thing.

For those of you that have not been to Homer you must make it one of those items on your list; your TODO list, you know the one that has “climb Everest before I die” kind of lists. You won’t regret it.

Thank You Center for the Arts, another great weekend, thanks to everyone from the Great American Irish Festival for heading down to see us, thanks for the drinks after too…

Now we are off to Michigan and Ohio.

Cheers

ROAD KILL:

As I was getting ready to head out on tour this weekend I really didn’t realize how much I missed the road. I missed the people, the chats, and friends and performing, it was a wonderful weekend.

We started out at one of our old haunts (the Naked Turtle) a perfect place to kick off the touring season.

Mathew and his staff are so nice and friendly they cater to our every whim. The crowd was enthusiastic and ready for a show, and we kicked it into high gear. We will be back soon. (July 23rd).

The next morning after a good night of rest and poor hotel food we headed south to Uxbridge, MA this time not to the Polish American hall but to a new venue (the Progressive Club) a great spot and tons of people.

It once again was great performing, our friend Cheryl set this concert up in style like usual and as usual did a wonderful job, it was great to see Linda, Larry, Lips and Cook, and our friends they Menards and the jello shots, good times…..

On the road again heading north to the Worcester Irish festival, now here is a festival that will be growing leaps and bounds in the next few years. After a rousing rocking concert Friday we headed back to the hotel Lobby for a few and then off to out kip for a wee nap before another blistering concert on Sunday. (Thanks Worcester) we will be back…

The next adventure was home, heading north, not that that would be an adventure but it is when most of the border crossings we attempted to get across were closed after midnight, I never knew that we shut Canada down after dark, (a lesson learned) but we did finally get across after 3 hours of trying.

Now it’s time for bed…

Next week we will be in Homer, New York for one of the highlights of my year. Hope to see some of you there; it’s going to be a blast.

Cheers

The recording of the new album is going gang busters there are new songs, new rhythms, a renewed  energy and focus.

The recording process, in the past, has been usually stressful however this time it is relaxing. This is possibly due the fact that we have not been in the studio for a while.

Taking time off heals and renews your desire to play music. The time off has given me a resurgence and a  new outlook. It would appear that I have  my passion back and I cant wait to get back on the road again. This is where my heart is.
